9/27/2005Companies Demonstrate an Intelligent Content Delivery Solution for Mobile Service Providers - Mobile Cohesion Tatara Systems and Mobile Cohesion combine forces to enable compelling new mobile offerings.
CTIA Wireless I.T. and Entertainment, San Francisco, September 27, 2005 – Tatara Systems, the market leader in mobile services convergence, and Mobile Cohesion, a leading vendor in content delivery management, today unveiled a joint solution bringing intelligence to mobile services and content delivery.
The joint solution includes the ability to optimize the experience for the mobile user based on the network connection and type of device being used, in addition to enabling commercial profile settings controlled by the service provider or end users. Such powerful new services will provide differentiated offerings and premium billable content for service providers.
Service Providers, including wireless carriers, mobile virtual network operators and application service providers, are rapidly increasing their capabilities to deliver a broad range of compelling content and services to their customers.
However, with the varying bandwidth available across networks, and the multitude of devices being used to access such content and services, it is often difficult for providers to deliver and optimize content in the right format for each specific subscriber session. Often the experience is defined by the least capable subscriber device and lowest quality network connection. A dynamic services delivery model yields an improved user experience when higher performance devices and/ or more robust network connections are being used.
“Adaptive content delivery, such as the intelligence to deliver “thin” content such as movie trailers or sports clips to handset devices on GPRS connections and “thick” content such as full motion video to laptops over a Wi-Fi broadband connections offers a compelling value proposition for subscribers”, said Bena Roberts, a Wireless Analyst with Current Analysis. “Different commercial plans are possible and service providers have a very large opportunity if they can optimize performance and economics to deliver the best service possible to their subscribers”.
Mobile Cohesion and Tatara Systems have leveraged their respective HYDRA(TM) and Mobile Services Convergence Platform(TM) to deliver a solution which serves as a unified service control point for service providers. In the solution being demonstrated at CTIA, intelligence about a customer’s specific session is utilized to deliver thick or thin content depending on the available bearer– WiFi, 3G or 2.5G - to the subscriber at the time of download or content request.
Per Lindblad, CEO of Mobile Cohesion, said, “Our decision to combine the capabilities of Mobile Cohesion and Tatara was driven by very positive feedback from carriers who endorsed our dynamic services delivery model. We are confident that this joint solution will boost the usage of wireless content services and thereby increasing revenues for service providers. The solution also increases customer satisfaction leading in turn to lower subscriber churn.”
Steve Nicolle, President and CEO of Tatara Systems, noted “Our collaboration with Mobile Cohesion enables service providers to deliver a richer set of converged services to users across a broad variety of access networks and devices yielding an improved customer experience and a variety of new services based on performance, pricing options or a users location”.
